Walking Tour of Space

Foxfields tomorrow, kids, and for the occasion, one of my flatmates and his friends took it upon themselves to build a 9-foot Hurricane- you wouldn't believe the workmanship on this thing. I'll try my damnedest to get some pictures, in between avoiding the fuzz, if it turns out to be as bad as they're saying.

Yeah, the semester's winding down, but the good shows haven't quite ended yet. Let's see....there's Dr. Dog on May 5th, the Liars with the Apes on the 19th, Soul Position on the 29th, and Bill Cosby (?!) at the Paramount on the same day. Unfortunately, if you wanted nothing more than to hear an hour or two of Jell-o pudding-based anecdotes, it's sold out.

The real reason you're here:

Sufjan Stevens - The Henney Buggy Band (The Avalanche: Outtakes and Extras from the Illinois Album (unreleased) - 2006)

Seriously, is writing great melodies some kind of reflex for him? It has to be 200 or so by now...

Pinetop Seven - High on a Summer's Tree (Beneath Confederate Lake - 2006)

The name tells you most of it- a nice Southwestern-tinged jaunt for the warm nights ahead.

Man alive, papers have really been working me over for the last couple of weeks, and there's still the matter of that damn virus I've yet to excise from my computer...good times.

Bare-bones at its best:

Menomena - Nebali (Rose EP, 2002)
Out Hud - Kibbeb (Natural Selection single, 1998)

As usual, there's nothing much to speak of, but if I go to the Wilco show on Sunday, there'll probably be pictures and videos here regarding it. In the meantime, until the next big thing leaks, I'm going to keep putting up random tracks, and you're going to like it.

Boy Robot - Bonjour Friseur (Rotten Cocktails, 2005)
Jason Forrest - Skyrocket Saturday (Shamelessly Exciting, 2005)
Shugo Tokumaru - Mizukagami (L.S.T., 2005)

Probably what exams will feel like in a couple weeks...

Anyone else finding this to be a really slow year for music so far? Hopefully it starts to improve, otherwise I might have to pick up hobbies or something.

Hot Snakes - Braintrust (Audit In Progress, 2004)

Fugazi - Five Corporations (End Hits, 1998)

Decahedron - Endings (Disconnection Imminent, 2004)

This semester can't end soon enough. Agreed?

New arrivals:

Cinemechanica - Brain Tarp (The Martial Arts, 2006)
Cinemechanica - Ruins of Karnac (The Martial Arts, 2006)

Gah, VICS this weekend is gonna test my commitment to sleep deprivation more than is probably healthy. Other than that, though, it shouldn't be too bad, as long as I don't think about how I'm missing MACRoCk again.

The new Final Fantasy album, He Poos Clouds (?), just leaked, and it's pretty enjoyable, with more variety than the last effort and a few standout tracks. As for the name- well, a quick listen of the lyrics confirms that strange phrases aren't confined to the title.

Final Fantasy - This Lamb Sells Condos (He Poos Clouds, 2006)
Final Fantasy - Many Lives -> 49 MP (He Poos Clouds, 2006)

The Books show last week, was, like Les Savy Fav's, lots of fun, but of an altogether different sort. I recorded a couple of videos during their set, but they came out as basically a black screen set to music. Quell dommage, maybe I can figure the camera out a bit more before Ghostface this Sunday. I've only been to one rap show before, so I really have no idea what to expect, but here's hoping he does a few songs from The Pretty Toney.

Songs to have seizures to:

Jason Forrest - The Walls of the City Shake (Shamelessly Exciting, 2005)

Polysics - My Sharona (Polysics or Die, 2004)
Thunderbirds Are Now! - Party A.R.M. (Doctor, Lawyer, Indian Chief, 2003)
